About Us

Athene studied first at Middlesex University and then at London Guildhall University’s Sir John Cass faculty of Art and Design, graduating in 1996 with a degree in Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied Crafts.

During her degree she undertook varied placements, working with a Milliner and a Carpenter alongside the more traditional jewellery placement. Her interest in many different media has led to an interesting cross reference of disciplines, and a willingness to be open minded and inventive when applying techniques and using materials.

Upon leaving university, Athene established a small retail gallery – ‘Fish’ – in Guernsey, promoting many up and coming young artists’ work alongside her own, before leaving the Island to travel. A trip which was expected to last six months became a voyage of over two years, visiting twenty different countries and exploring the artistic heritage of many cultures. During this time Athene collected many fascinating images of the natural world in various forms from which she continues to draw inspiration.
Athene has recently discovered that travel and the weather (!) are her twin muses. Recent trips to Morocco and Holland have sparked new creative directions. The weather patterns of the Channel Islands are are constant source of creativity. All of this is underpinned by her fascination with colour theory and how that is affected by personal circumstances.

Athene now works from her studio in Guernsey and holds regular open evenings. Visits to the studio can be made at any time, by appointment. Please contact Athene if you would like to be included in the mailing list for future open evenings.

Lauren joined our team in July 2017.

Fuelled by biscuits and tea, and possessing fabulous typing skills, she keeps on top of all our admin and single handedly manages the website.

Lauren has recently started learning the ropes in other areas of the business and has been broadening her skill set with basic bench techniques.

Lauren likes goats and capybaras…someone has too.

Jess is the newest member of our team, joining us in September 2018.

With a background in secretarial/admin, Jess joins us after a career break – she has three small boys. She is extremely creative in her spare time and we think she’ll fit right in. Her first few weeks have been spent learning the ropes in the workshop and exercising her “colour selection” muscles. I’m sure you’ll all join us in giving her a very big welcome when you see her around the studio.

Sofia studied Art at Guernsey College of Further Education and graduated in 2015.

Having spotted her work at the Greenhouse Gallery in July 2015, we knew she’d fit right in. Sofia worked with us for three years but has now moved on to a new career in estate agency and we all wish her the very best of luck. We will continue to see her for some of our events and open studios, so you’ll still have the opportunity to say to say hi!
