We’re delighted to be selected for the first annual Folksy Summer exhibition. Put together to celebrate the talent and craftsmanship of UK makers.
We are in excellent company with a wide selection of makers using a vast range of different materials and techniques.
Featured was our recyled gold Ormer pendant – A handmade ‘caricature’ of an Ormer Shell. This is our version of the Ormer, pared down to its beautifully simplified basic characteristics.
Donated to Guernsey Arts for the raffle at the Beatles celebration, organised to mark 60 years since their performance in Guernsey.
Made from old vinyl records and recycled plastic cards – cut into plectrum shapes to celebrate the iconic albums, Sgt Pepper and Abbey Rd. We love how each earrings matches up with different frames from the book.
Although our collective favourite has to be Yellow Submarine – the song and animated movie. Eleanor definitely cites this as a major creative influence, and even has the books.
The whole of Guernsey has been gripped with Beatles fever, it’s like the Fab 4 are here again and everyone is screaming so loud they can’t hear them play. How has that transcended 60 years? Impressive.
We had to put our thinking caps on for this exhibition , how can we create a portrait with jewellery?
After a bit of thinking and a few cups of licorice tea, we had our light bulb moment. Jewellery is often an expression of ourselves and even if it is not the first thing you think of, it’s already somewhat of a portrait. The choice of colours, shapes, textures and stones can express a lot about a person.
So we choose one of our favourite selfies and created a quick self portrait using pastel crayons, (having not drawn anything since the 90’s, be kind) then from the colours, shapes and textures we observed we picked out stones that complemented them. Now when the necklace is worn it will suit the wearer perfectly.
The necklace is made from a variety of stones, warm pink opals, red rubies and orange carnelian. Contrasted with a brilliant blue opal, which picks out the colour from the sunglasses and ocean in the background. And very handily picks out the eye colour too.
To display our portrait we have combined the pastel drawing with the necklace to allow them to complement each other and show the relationship between the inspiration and the colours.
Colour Theory Necklaces – Chamber of Commerce / Guernsey Art Network – October 2021
This set of necklaces were part of the first of rolling exhibition in the Chamber of Commerce headquarters in the inner market in St Peter Port.
We chose a set of our greenery necklaces, all inspired by one of our colour theory essays. We wanted to channel our love of green and how it brings a sense of freshness, growth and life. Perfect for brightening the winter months and inspiring us to walk with a spring in our step. You can learn more about our love of green in the full essay.
A big thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for the display space and Guernsey Art Network for organising.
